A perpetual favorite among the GM crowd, the Epromer5 is a solid, tried and true product. As of October 10, 2003, prices ranged from $94.50 to $114.50 depending on whether cables, ZIF socket, power supply were included. The only significant downside at this time worth mentioning is the lack of support for ATMEL AT29 C256 chips, although it has been promised in an upcoming version.

The Epromer 5 now supports the Atmel 29c256 chips.
If you are having a hard time burning chips... look for bad solder joints on the surface mounted IC's. (I found a bunch) Also, play with the speed. I found that on my old 600 mhz laptop, the Epromer 5 will only burn the 27c256 eproms at "13". I can burn the atmel 29c256 flash eproms at any speed.
